Current and Future Exhibitions.
4.11.07
This Xmas I am showing at the Artmill Gallery here in Plymouth. No theme this time just a good cross section of recent work - and for the first time ever I'm including some small abstract watercolours.

Last year it was Hendrix, this year we have Tom Waits as the musical inspiration for my Xmas exhibition with the Somerville Gallery. All the items in the exhibition will take the form of plates and Platters and will be displayed on the wall of the gallery.
Music plays an essential part in the way I work and sets the mood for the colours and shapes that appear.I was introduced to the songs and music of Tom Waits in 1971 when I was an assistant to my pottery mentor Colin Pearson. It was around that time when Colin and I went to see him live at the Dominion Theatre in London . It was a great evening and one I can still recall today.
I like the dark side of Waits lyrics especially the way he expresses things most of us never see, unless of course we're in a smoky late night dive at around 3am. Goodbody's springs to mind - strange name for a place that's open 24/7.
During the making of the work for this show I listened continuously to his lyrics, I would often jot a line down as I listened, however in the end I decided the choice of titles by going online where I found a page dedicated to all his songs. After saving the lines I liked I placed all the pieces on the floor and looked for appropriate images, shapes and colours in the work to add the titles to.
The exhibition opens on Friday Dec 8th and runs through to Jan 8th 2007.

interest.

I'm currently working on a series of ceramic screens based on the song titles of Jimi
Hendrix. These will be displayed at the Somerville Gallery here in Plymouth during
December. The exhibition will open on Thurs Dec 1st and run on to Jan 2006. -
This was another successful show at the Sommerville Gallery with half the work selling
and a record price of £425 being made for one of the pots.
April 11th - May 7th 2005
Bistro One
Bistro One details can be found on the links page.
The show opens on April 11th and runs until May 7th, this will be my first collaberation with Steve and I'm hoping his clientele will enjoy my work as much as his food.
I'm intending to show approx 12 square dishes which will all be displayed on the wall, some will be box framed giving an extra quality to the work.

Watch out for news of my Slipware masterclass being held in Appledore/Bideford as part of the annual International Appledore Arts Festival in early June 2005. Wally Keeler is also hoping to attend. I will also be having an exhibition of work in the Burton Gallery to accompany the masterclass.

Since my last posting in the summer I have been working mostly on the making of Ceramic Screens. These have been mainly for my Solo show "Images from the Floating World" which was held at the Marshall Arts Gallery in Totnes. I worked mainly from photographs taken of female friends which I then abstracted to make the final image. Some of these are featured on the 'Screens 2' page.
I am currently working on another series of screens for a forthcoming exhibition with Paul Somerville here in Plymouth. This is a follow up to the successful 'Voulkos Series' shown with Paul last Xmas. The work in this show will be titled "The Gemini Series" and again features images taken from photographs of two female friends - Clare and Rachel.
The above show was a resounding success, with nine items going on the opening night including all the framed ones. Box framing some of the screens has proved to be a new and interesting way of showing my work. See screen 10 in the screens 2 page.
